Child and Youth Counsellor II

Summary

Starling Community Services is seeking a full-time Child and Youth Counsellor II for a contract position at Benjamin Road (Birchlands), running from November 23, 2026, to October 31, 2027. This role involves supervising, monitoring, supporting, and coaching clients through their treatment and academic programs, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. The position emphasizes an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and equity-focused approach to foster a sense of belonging and support social-emotional learning. Key responsibilities include counseling clients using therapeutic techniques like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), assessing and implementing client care plans, liaising with families and community partners, maintaining client files, and monitoring facility security. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree or diploma in child and youth work with at least one year of experience in a milieu setting, along with experience working with youth. Strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills are essential, as is a commitment to equity and anti-oppression principles. A "G" class driver's license and First Aid/CPR/CIT certifications are also required.
