Senior Planner, Environmental
Summary
The Town of Milton is seeking a Senior Planner, Environmental to join their Planning Policy & Urban Design team. Reporting to the Director, this role is responsible for conducting natural heritage reviews of development applications and infrastructure projects, leading environmental planning initiatives, and undertaking research and analysis to support the department. The Senior Planner will manage the review and evaluation of environmental and natural heritage studies, provide professional advice to Town staff, and serve as the primary contact for environmental matters. Key responsibilities include managing municipally-initiated projects, overseeing the work of consultants, leading the development of natural heritage policy, and reviewing development applications from an ecological perspective. The role also involves representing the department at various hearings and public meetings, coordinating public consultations, and providing guidance to other planners. Candidates must have a post-secondary degree in Environmental Planning or a related Environmental Science discipline, along with a minimum of seven years of experience in environmental and land use planning. A comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation, such as the Planning Act and Environmental Assessment Act, and familiarity with ecological protocols like the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System are required. The position demands strong project management, analytical, and communication skills, as well as proficiency with ArcGIS. Preferred qualifications include a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation, experience in a municipal or public agency setting, and the ability to present evidence at the Ontario Land Tribunal.
